Pathway 2: Online Prep + Flight Review

Program Overview

Online Ground School: 28 hours
Flight training and preparation: 3 hours
Flight review: Included
Price: $1,200 + tax
This pathway is designed for pilots who already have extensive drone-flying experience and do not require the full five-day practical training program.
It combines our 28-hour online Ground School with three hours of flight review preparation and the required Transport Canada flight review.
Transport Canada fees: Exams and certificates are issued directly by Transport Canada. Applicable Transport Canada fees are paid separately and are approximately $35.

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites to enrol in this program.
However, because this pathway includes significantly less practical flight instruction than our Complete Training Package, students should already have substantial drone-flying experience.

28-Hour Online Ground School

The online Ground School prepares students for the Transport Canada Advanced Operations exam and covers:
  • Air law, air traffic rules and procedures
  • RPAS airframes, power plants, propulsion and systems
  • Human factors
  • Meteorology
  • Navigation
  • Flight operations
  • Theory of flight
  • Radiotelephony
You must successfully complete the Transport Canada Advanced Operations exam before completing your flight review.

Flight Review Preparation

After passing the Advanced Operations exam, students complete practical preparation with one of our certified flight reviewers.
This component includes:
  • Flight review preparation
  • Mission-planning guidance
  • Practical flying preparation
  • Pre-review materials
  • Checklists
  • Pilot logbook
  • Weather decoders
  • Official Transport Canada flight review

Equipment

Students may use their own suitable, Transport Canada-compliant drone for practical training and the flight review.
An optional equipment package is also available.

DJI Care Refresh is not included. Students may purchase DJI Care Refresh directly from DJI after activating their aircraft.

Certification

Students who successfully complete the applicable requirements will receive:
  • Drone Pilot Certificate – Advanced Operations issued by Transport Canada
  • Radio Operator Certificate – Aeronautical (ROC-A)
  • VEdTS Advanced Drone Pilot Certificate
